Parents Rejoice: Indian Gamers Making 6-12 LPA, Study Finds!
As games and eSports begin to impact the economy of content creators more than ever before, gaming careers are becoming more mainstream and diverging from the niche market that existed just a few years ago.
Amidst this shift, a recent survey by HP has revealed that nearly half of Indian gamers are seriously considering gaming as a source of income. Based on the answers, they earn between Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000. This study involved 3500 participants including 500 parents from 15 tier 1 cities and 15 tier 2 cities across India.
In addition to these findings, players can also earn income from other sources such as brand sponsorships, tournaments, and streaming, all of which contribute to their influence in the gaming community.
There has been a positive change in the way parents react to their children’s interest in gaming. According to the HP report, nearly 42% of respondents accepted gaming as a hobby and 40% said their view has become more positive in recent years. However, some parents remain skeptical of the industry, with 49 percent relying on friends and family for information.
Gambling is not only popular in the big cities of India; even small towns are involved in the action. The survey found that 75% of Gen Zers and 67% of non-metro millennials are serious about gaming, with 58% of female respondents expressing an interest.
The study also looked at gaming devices and found that 67% of gamers would rather use a gaming computer than, for example, a mobile phone. It was further revealed that most gamers are willing to pay more than Rs 1 lakh for gaming hardware for better control, performance and higher frames per second.
